Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2 Drivers, BIOS Update, Software Download for Windows 10 64 Bit – The X1 Carbon offers two display options: the base model includes a TN panel with WXGA resolution (1600 x 900 pixels and 131 dpi, not available in all markets), while our review model features a touchscreen IPS panel with WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels, 210 dpi). We have previously reviewed this particular panel, so this time we will focus on possible variations within the panel series.
Indeed, we found that the display is even darker, with an average brightness of 226 cd/m², compared to the previous review model (252 cd/m²), which we already considered insufficient. Lenovo claims a brightness of 300 cd/m², and competitors like the Dell Latitude E7440 (302 cd/m²) and Fujitsu’s Lifebook U904 (306 cd/m²) offer significantly brighter displays. The ThinkPad’s screen is suitable for indoor use without major limitations, but it suffers in outdoor visibility.
The contrast ratio of 991:1 is also lower compared to the previous review unit (1434:1). While this is less critical than maximum brightness, it’s worth mentioning. Good IPS panels, such as the LG Philips LP140GH1-SPA2 used here, typically have ratios around 1000:1, ensuring a vibrant and saturated image. In comparison to cheaper TN displays, the X1 Carbon’s panel offers much deeper blacks, although some light bleeding was observed at the bottom. Despite not fully covering professional color spaces, the panel is suitable for photo and graphics editing after calibration.
